TORINOKI FURNITUREの依頼により、φ1200の円形ガラス天板を支えるダイニングテーブルのデザイン／設計を担当しました。
木部には、TORINOKI FURNITUREが扱う槙（マキ）の株を採用。樹が内包する時間の表情を起点に、構造と素材の関係を組み立てています。脚部は同ブランドが得意とする無垢の鉄。そこに、条件であったガラス天板の透明性を重ね、重さと軽さ、温度と光が同居する円卓を目指しました。
コンセプトは、提案した造語 「共円（きょうえん）」。
その考え方をTORINOKI FURNITUREと共有し、同ブランドの良さが最大限に活きるデザインへ落とし込みました。
「共円」は、異なる素材や価値観が円の中心で交わり、対話し、共鳴していく状態。
言葉の響きとして 共円／共縁／共演／共笑へと連なり、円卓を囲む時間そのものを讃えます。

Commissioned by TORINOKI FURNITURE, I was responsible for the design and engineering of a dining table that supports a φ1200 round glass tabletop.
For the timber component, we selected a Maki (槙) stump from TORINOKI FURNITURE’s collection. Starting from the time-worn character held within the wood, the structure and relationships between materials were carefully composed. The legs are made of solid steel, a material the brand is known for. Layered with the transparency of the glass top—a key requirement of the project—the table aims to hold weight and lightness, warmth and light, within a single round form.
The concept is “KYÓEN” (共円, pronounced kyoh-en), a coined term I proposed.
Sharing this idea with TORINOKI FURNITURE, I translated it into a design that brings out the brand’s strengths to their fullest.
KYÓEN describes a state in which different materials and values meet at the center of a circle—engaging in dialogue and resonating with one another. The word also echoes layered meanings in Japanese—a shared circle, a shared bond, a shared performance, and shared laughter—celebrating the time spent together around a round table.
